I can't wait...

It's no mystery that I love fairs and carnivals. It's not the rides (though that can be fun sometimes), and it's certainly not the junk food (well, not usually...). It's the whole package. The colours, the cacophony sounds, the smells of sausages and deep-fryers. I love to take pictures at fairs and try to evoke those old childhood memories. When I was a kid, we had to drive right by an old amusement park to get home, and there is nothing imprinted deeper on my brain than the sounds of screams and the thunder of the big wooden roller coaster right next to the road.

To me, that's the sound of summer, more than anything else. Soon we set the clocks forward, and that just bring us that little bit closer to that magical time of year.

  1. Yes! I am counting it down. Next week, Daylight Savings, the week after, spring officially begins ... it's coming, and then finally warm weather (and photo roadtrips!)

You heighten fairs into cotton candy fantasy memories from some other planet. You shoot them and they turn into a RayBradburyian collective memory of That Perfect Fair Way Back Then.

  2. How can I possibly live up to those lofty expectations? :)

  3. I've only been to a handful of fairs in my life. Apparently I've been missing out!

    I LOOOVE that first photo.

About Me

My photo
A blog mostly about my photography, my etsy shop, travel, and other assorted addictions and predilections. I've been passionate about photography for just about as long as I can remember, right from that very first 1960s Kodak Brownie around my wrist at Upper Canada Village... A great deal of my adult life has been spent travelling the world for extended periods, always with cameras in tow. My photographic interests run the gamut from intimate portraits to landscapes to ephemera to street life. Although firmly entrenched in the digital age, I have a weakness for film and for old cameras.
